I frequently go to the same web community. During one of our more humorous posting sessions, I made the joke that I was feeling a little “Verklempt at the moment..” (which if you are of a certain age will get the reference) then another person followed it up with “Peanut – it’s neither a pee, nor a nut – discuss!!!” and yet another person simply followed that with the word “Legume?” with a question mark attached to it. Later that night I was watching t.v. and I happened to stumble across a Ricky Gervais comedy special, which I had not seen prior. Wouldn’t you know about a half our into the special he makes a joke concerning peanuts. The joke was about the internet and how you can go to these encyclopedias (wikipedia namely) and just change information at will. He said “Like there was some guy at home going,” “the peanut’s NOT a nut!!! It’s a LEGUME. I had better go tell the world!” Immediately my jaw hit the floor and I got a case of the chills, for I remembered back to earlier that day. I went back to the website and asked if anyone had ever heard of Gervais, or seen any of his specials recently and to my surprise no one had. I still don’t know what to make of it. Some things can be chalked up to coincidence, but this was just too strange. Of all the jokes he could have told that exist in the world today, he chose to tell that one. You tell me.

Years ago my Dad Chad Chadwick was plastering the inside of a tower on the beach in Florida when lightening struck the tower, ran down the metal lathe and knocked my dad unconscious. When he came to he decided to start working again (he did have four small children at home) When mere minutes later the tower was struck again by lightening, this time when he came to he decided to go home for the day… he did have four small children at home after all.

Hi all, very entertained by the stories and had to share mine. Both involve dad who isn’t here now but still see him in my dreams. Anyway when I was about 9 or 10, me and dad were walking back from the baths where he was reaching me to be a better swimmer. It was Sunday afternoon. We stopped when we noticed two pound coins, one slightly on top if the other. I was delighted as he said I could have them. We puzzled about it for the rest if the way, if they’d been dropped by someone, surely they’d have been separated? Thought no more of it. Next Sundat, me n dad walking back and hey presto, two pound coins, same position, same place. We were both amazed, me n dad always loved talking about stuff like this when I got older and often reminisced about this impossible event. In the weeks to follow we always looked for them but never found them again.

Another story my dad told me was that he met a guy in the street one morning. He lived across the road and was someone we’d often stop to say hello to. A giant of a guy, I always think of him as like Hagrid from hp, he was a lovely man. This particular day, dad was about to carry on his journey when the man said something along the lines of oh here you can have these. Before dad could say anything, the man strode away and looked, more than surprised, to find a packet of sweets, fruit pastels they’re called, dad never saw the guy again to ask why he’d given the sweets to him and later (can’t remember how much time had passed but wasn’t that long) we heard that the guy had passed away. So my dad never ate sweets bur put them in his pocket to give to me later. That evening, he visited gran at the home she was in. Right before he left, he asked if she wanted anything getting for the next day. She said you know what? You could get me some if those fruit pastels? I’ve been craving them all day. My dad said sure he’d get some and then remembered meeting the guy earlier on. He gave the sweets to my gran and told her what had happened. We always talked about that day too and he said he’d always wished he’d seen the guy again to ask him why he’d given him a packet of fruit pastels that day, you never know, maybe they caught up in heaven and he found out, I hope he did :-)

In 2008, one of my beloved cats, Cleo, died. A week later, at 4 am, we were woken up by a meowing sound. We came outside to see a week-old kitten sitting on our doorstep. He had been abandoned, apparently. We took him in, nursed him back to health. When he was well enough to eat and drink on his own, we realized that he was in a habit of dipping his paw into the water dish and licking at it.

The way Cleo drank her water was by dipping her paw into the water dish and licking at it.

9 lives, anyone? ;)

A couple of years back I went to the library for some books. I got a ‘cosmic ordering’ book and Goldie Hawns autobiography ‘A lotus grows in the mud. I read the Goldie Hawn book and loved it. Then I read the cosmic ordering book, which was interesting, the book said to ask the universe for anything you wanted and it would deliver?? So i cosmic ordered to meet Goldie Hawn as I was so moved by her book and the cosmic ordering book said to pick something that you wouldnt expect to happen. Anyway I forgot all about the order till a few months later my brother invited me to a party in the Hilton hotel that his friend was helping to organise. Then he happened to mention that Goldie Hawn would be there “doing signings for some book she wrote” OMG, i was astonished that I was going to meet Goldie, especially as the party was in Glasgow, Scotland!! Whats the chances! Anyway got an ace pic with her and my very own signed copy of her book. Amazing!

Me and my mum were talking about teachers, which led us to talk about my mums best friend. My mum told me how she liked a particular photo of them. That day, the very same friend rung, and told my mum that she had very recently shown someone that self same photo!

I am from a small town in Minnesota, and my close extended family is mainly centralized in an even smaller town north of the Twin Cities. To get to our little cluster of lake cabins/homes outside of Aitkin, the windy dirt roads through the trees yeild a suprising amount of small residences and vacation homes, but with few names. A group of “Lieben” mailboxes (names have been changed), a row of “Fleur” mailboxes; many people’s neighbors are literally kin. Families that have lived near each other for hundreds of years. With this kind of closeness so common in that “neck of the woods”, you can imagine the sad tragedy it would be to leave for four years to head out to Oregon while my dad went to school.

During our four years out west, I attended 6th-9th grade, and it was in my 9th grade year I started dating the sophomore of my dreams. He really was the love of my life (though I didn’t know it at the time, with so little dating experience to compare to) and I felt my life was over when it came time to move back to Minnesota. We kept in touch throughout the end of highschool, and occasionally talked on the phone and wrote letters, but it was five years after our separation we realized that we really did have something too phenomenal to let go. He came to visit me, to “see if still really was something”, and this first trip to Minnesota was of course a memorable one. When talking to his cousin on the phone, relaying our plans for the coming weekend, which included a trip to Aitkin to show off my little lake home, she mentioned she thought their grandma was actually raised there. Imagine my parents faces when we found out her surname. It was “Fleur”. Our families had been living near each other for centuries, and though his French-Catholic family and my German-Lutheran family had not necessarily crossed friendly paths (though definitely not unfriendly ones either) this crazy idea that he would be going to his family’s homeland as well blew our minds. After a quick reassurance we could in no way be related, we were so ecstatic to learn of this common heritage.

We are now married, and still are amazed at the fact that we had to move 2000 miles away to meet the man of my dreams, that was kin to a family so close to ours all along.

It was april 1st and i could not think of an april fool to tell people and i was running out of time.
I though i would say that while walking along the beach with the dog i had found human remains namely a head and both hands.
i admit that my april fool lacked humour and it was more serious than anything else.
1 hour later as i heard on the news, 2 children had been walking along playing on the very beach i mentioned and they had found human remains ( a head and hands ) i started to really panic because this was braking news and i said it before it actually happend so i thought id get pulled in for it.

how scary.

the police solved the crime and the accused admitted to it and is now serving over 30years in prison.

When I was growing up, my family had two favorite location spots. For beach trips, we would visit Perdido Key, FL. For skiing, we would go to Wolf Creek Ski Area in South Fork, CO. When I was about thirteen I had my first real romantic experience with a girl who I met on vacation in Perdido Key. Turns out she was born in Perdido Key, but at the time, she was living in South Fork. So when my family went skiing that winter, we had more time together. Eventually my family lost interest in skiing (and driving for 2 days straight), but we continued our shorter, 3-hour trips to Perdido Key, about the time that her family decided to move back to her birthplace. We went our separate ways romantically, but still kept in touch. To finish it off, we now attend the same college, Florida State University. We still see each other at parties every now and then.
