My lifelong friend Jill died in 2006 after a long battle with breast cancer. My wife and I adopted her daughter after she died. Exactly one year to the day after she died, I had a very vivid dream about her. In the dream, Jill was standing outside under a tree. As I approached her, she said “Take them with you”. She looked very frightened, and she kept saying it over and over again, as if she was pleading with me – “Take them with you! Take them with you!” I didn’t know what she meant, and I asked her to explain, but she wouldn’t say anything else. Just “Take them with you.”

The next morning, Jill’s daughter Katie, who now lives with us, told me that she also had a dream about her mom that night. In her dream, Jill was standing outside her bedroom window. She was saying something to her but she couldn’t hear her through the glass. We all thought it was weird that we both had dreams about Jill that night, exactly one year after her death, but we just figured it was because we were thinking about her that day. But I was still haunted by the words “Take them with you”...what did she mean? Take who (or what) with me? Where? Why?

3 weeks later, I had forgotten all about the dreams. I had to run out to the store for some things, and as I was headed out the door I decided on a whim to take our daughters along for the ride. I wasn’t consciously thinking about the dream, I just decided to take them along just to give my wife a little peace and quiet, because she wasn’t feeling well. While we were at the store, a huge storm blew through. Then my wife called on the cell phone and said I better come home right away, because a large tree had fallen on our house. When I got home, I discovered that the tree had fallen directly on Katie’s bedroom – exactly where the two girls had been playing right before we left to go to the store.

My wife and I just looked at each other and at the same time we both whispered “Take them with you.”

So many coincidences in the last few months. Where do i begin? I had a song in my head I despised and it was not exactly a popular hit at the time. when i turned on my car to go to work, the radio (which i never listen to) was on a station (I never listen to either) and it finished the line i was singing in my head. Later on this guy i am no longer friends with called me and told me that he and this other guy i am no longer friends with said that the other day they were working out and the same song came on and they followed the lyrics and they said when they heard it it reminded them of me and the falling out we had. it did.
2) I don’t watch the Simpsons and i never have. On a vegetarian project presentation i did for a college class, i had a picture of Lisa from the Simpsons eating steak and her thought bubble was a picture of a lamb. She had a guilty look on her face. Later on that day, someone who i never talked to not in my class or knew anything asked if i watched the simpsons.I said no. And they said nevermind. I asked why and they said it is a great show and i just felt like asking you, thats all.”
3) My parents have been divorced for almost ten years now. My father has not actually spoken to his mother for years rather than just the regular hello. She even lived near us for 20 years. This last mothers day, my dad randomly decides to visit her in texas. That was weird enough for me, but it gets better. My sister who still talks to our mom says that she is not picking up the phone. I am driving her to the store and i slow down and say “what if shes in texas and dad and mom are going to be there together by accident?” she says no whatever. I said “seriously think about it.. i see it happening.” and i start laughing. Apparently, my moms mom was visiting texas on the same farm which my dads mom lives at because they are still both related to my aunt who owns the farm. The next morning my brother comes upstairs and says, “guess what guys, mom is in Texas.” I freaked out. If you knew my parents… you would understand the irony better.
4) In a religion class, my friend was doing something that annoyed me. I told her to stop. She looked at me and i puzzling said stop lock and drop it. We are both caucasian and that song use to be a popular song a few years ago but we both just laughed at how it came out of me from nowhere. it gets weirder. The next day im on the phone with a different friend, im in the kitchen and out of nowhere she said “pop lock and drop it” ?????? what????? i hung up the phone a little later after asking her why she said that. She said she didn’t know.

I keep having thoughts on movies. Different ones at differents times. Obscure movies or even more popular ones then all of a sudden they appear on TV. An example of this I was thinking of the movie Rocky and Sly Stallone. He wrote the sceenplay. Then I remembered him in the movie Death Race 2000 with David Carradine. That afternnon I turned on the TV and it was on. This has been happening for over 3 years now. I want to be a screenwriter and wonder if this is an intention that is happening…

This morning, I logged on to a site that I am registered with using my membership number as a log-in ID. Later, I opened an email from a company I had purchased a program from and, reading through it, thought that I had become confused when I noticed that the authorization number was exactly the same as my log-in ID for the other forum. It is a 5 digit number, so I should imagine that the odds are pretty high against this. Also, this was my first log-in, ever, to the site forum.

The other day my daughter came over and said she left her bike over her Aunt’s house last summer and has not been able to contact her by phone, we looked for her cell phone number but she changed it some time ago. All we could do is drive to her house and take the chance that she would be there~knowing that she is gone out alot. All of a sudden while we were planning the trip my daughter gets a text message on her cell phone from here Aunt and she wrote that she was cleaning out her garage and wanted to know how soon she could come over and pick up her bike. she replied back and said we would be right over. We laughed at how coincidental the timing was. Really Cool !!

I was reading a few stories on a Facebook synchroncity page this evening when a travel-related one caught my attention. Two women from a small town in Michigan went to Europe one summer. They knew each other, but neither knew the other was taking an overseas trip. So they ran into each other at the top of the Eiffel Tower. Surprise!

That reminded me that, from my own experiences, long-distance travel seems to generate such strange coincidences or synchronicities. We are out of our daily routines, encountering new things in new places, and whether we know it or not, we are open to opportunities for meaningful coincidence.

One summer, while in Spain, my traveling partner and I kept running into an Australian named Maurey. It seemed that wherever we went, Maurey would show up. He wasn’t particularly friendly and never seemed surprised when we bumped into him.

After three weeks in Spain, we decided to go to Morocco. We ferried to Ceita and suddenly found ourselves in a culture where we didn’t speak the language, and couldn’t read the signs. We climbed into a bus with gaudy decor among the jalaba-wearing Moroccans. Several were involved in a heated argument near us and the Arabic music was loud and screechy. The bus was hot and dusty and my head was pounding when I noticed two Western men about three rows in front of us.

I tapped my friend on the shoulder. “You’re not going to believe it. There’s Maurey.”

We called out to him. Suddenly, he seemed like a long-lost friend. Maurey and the man next to him turned. To our surprise, Maurey was seated with the only other person we knew from our hometown in Minnesota who was traveling in Europe. But Dave was supposed to be in Sweden. We had no idea he planned to visit Morocco. But there he was…and with Maurey!

That one from many years ago has always amazed me. We’ve been collecting them a blog for a few months and many are very strange. Take a look if you like:

Ever since the attack on the twin towers I have seen 9/11 EVERYWHERE! Every time I look at a clock or set a timer. The weirdest one was when i looked at the clock and it flicked on to 9/11, a song by 911 cam on the radio and and that minute I got a phone call off a mate asking about 9/11 for a report he was doing. As I read this I was thinking about submitting but wasnt sure, but then on page 3 of archives I read a post by soda that was about 9/11 too. Its weird man.
