Whilst riding home on the bus, I sat down next to a guy reading a book. I reached into my bag, pulling out a book I had been reading, named the Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson, a book of over 900 pages that contains strings of coincidences as part of its plot, only to hear the words “you got to be f***** kidding” from the person sitting next to me. Looking to what he was reading I discovered he was reading the same book at the same page.

:-(

This was very strange. I said nice to meet you and got off the bus.

While growing up playing tennis we met many other kids and their families. As the years passed some of the kids went on to college played tennis etc. One particuliar family had a son that was a few years older than I. My father ended up working within a company that his dad owned and was given a choice to stay or leave (with a severance due to the fact that part of the company was dissolving.) A not so great ending. My brother than worked with his son and the son (his boss) hired someone to take over, passing over my brother for the promotion and leaving him without a job. So a few years later I ran into him(his son) on a beach(coincidence) in Florida and after talking a few minutes we realized that we had lived in the same 2 cities and never known of it until that moment. A small world?? We then ended up dating for a short time he letting me go to go back to his ex girlfriend. 6 years ago. A few months ago saw his photo in a publication and was going to contact him decided not to. Got a call 2 weeks ago from my mom that he had passed away. Short life. Not sure looking back what this all means, Karma? coincidence? Opportunities to do the right thing? Law of attraction? Peace be with you, live in the now.

In 1991 I sold my house to a Welsh family in Perth, Western Australia. I had Irish friends at the time who knew 2 Welsh families in Perth (a city of over a million people back then), my family and the one that bought my house. The start of the coincidences. 2008 – we are living in South Wales UK temporarily. My wife has befriended a Welsh girl living near us. Having a drink at her place yesterday she remarked that she’d been engaged to a boy in Perth. She showed us pictures of a party she attended at his house in the 1990’s. It was the house I sold to the Welsh family 17 years ago, the boy was the son of that family. What are the odds?

When I got my second job at the age of 16 I accidentally changed the last digit of my social security number, it was a 9 and I thought and wrote that it was a 4. I always joked that the social security I got from that job went to someone else. Years later while working at another job as a hiring manager I hired a 16 year old boy. When I asked him his social security number I was amazed to find out that it was the one that I had used years earlier! I laughed and told him that he had received my social security money!

My coincidence, actually strange occurance happened this last weekend while visiting family in Minnesota. I went to a thrift store with my sister and I happened upon a novelty bar of soap still in the box. I tried to open it to see what it said of course the box said “Over the Hill Soap”. Thinking ahead that my husband will be forty I thought it would be funny to get it for him. I talked myself out of it and was ready to leave with my sister. She waited in line and I thought again about the soap. I went back and got it. When we arrived back at her house we joked about what the soap would look like or say. I am laughing as I open it up and as soon as I saw the soap I stopped and just stared at it. My sister stood across from me and asked me what it said. I looked at her and turned the soap around for her to read it. It has my name stamped into it “Lisa” . I have still been a little creeped out about it since I got it. There are just no “odds” of me buying that soap bar. It obviously was not the soap that was suppose to be in the box..yet after putting it down…I still went back and got it.

a few years back i was riding the schoolbus home with my girlfriend. a kid in front of us said to someone else ‘fug you.’ i said to the kid, ‘fug… that’s not even a word man.’ nothing else was said about it and we finished the bus ride. my girlfriend and i got off at her house and the conversation came up that i could make her laugh by saying any single word. to prove it, i closed my eyes and grabbed a book from her massive bookshelf. i flipped to a random page and stuck my finger on the paper. i opened my eyes and right where my finger was at was the word fug. it means the stuffy atmosphere of a poorly ventilated space. i’ve had great faith in a higher power ever since.

We had 2 sets of friends who didn’t know each other previously around for dinner. The 2 women get talking about how they used to live in Sydney, the one happened to ask “where in Sydney”, it turned out they had lived in the same town, so they continued, OK what road and what Number. They had both rented the very same flat, some 15 years apart.

Back in the 1950s & 60s, my mother knew a lady who\‘s daughter was a singer. The lady had given my mother a pair of her daughter\‘s earrings as a gift.

Recently, my mother was showing me some old pieces of her jewellery and when she came to the earrings she told me they had once belonged to a singer. Later that evening when my mother went into the kitchen to make the supper, one of the singer\‘s recordings was playing on the radio. This was a coincidence in itself as her songs aren\‘t heard very often.

The following Saturday my mother went shopping with my aunt and she was telling my aunt about the earrings when a woman overheard. \“I hope you don\‘t mind me listening in to your conversation\”, the woman said, \“but I too would like to know whatever became of her as I loved her voice and have a large collection of her recordings.\”
