I was in a charity shop on 1st April 2006 and as I was looking at the shelves of books, I saw a novel entitled “April Fools”. It is not the first time that I have found an association with a book from this particular charity shop. Last year, my father asked me to see if they had a particular book by an author who’s surname was Cruz. Just before I came to the shop, I saw a sign on a wall saying “Cruise Connections”. Although the spelling was different, I felt certain that the sign was trying to tell me something and the arrow underneath the writing which seemed to be pointing towards the shop, made me even more convinced. When I looked at the books on sale, there was one by Cruz, though not the one my father was looking for unfortunately. But when you consider all the authors that could have been represented and that there probably were only about a hundred books in total, it still was quite a coincidence.

I work in the city and several Friday’s ago at 15:30, I looked out my office window at a nearby road junction and was surprised to see four concrete mixer lorries, each one stopped nearest the traffic lights at each of the four roads leading into the junction. Three of the lorries belonged to different companies and the two lorries from the same company weren’t travelling in opposite directions. So I’m pretty sure they were all delivering to/returning from different construction sites. Mysteriously, they had all managed to arrive at the road junction at precisely the same time.

I was worried about something one evening while sitting alone in my house. I’d removed the boots I’d been wearing and had placed them on the floor not far from where I was sitting. The floor was carpeted. Because I was worried, I said in a whisper “What am I going to do? What am I going to do?” After the second repetition I heard a noise from somewhere in the room, like metal rattling. I followed the noise to the boots I had placed on the floor and found that the zip pull on one of the boots was rattling. It rattled for about two seconds and then stopped. This never happened before and has never happened since. I don’t know what caused one of the zip pulls to rattle like that but it was a particularly unnerving experience, especially after my declaration of uncertainty. I hope it was a coincidence.

There are many coincidences in my life, some of them:

- hello, my name is VIrginia, i was born in a little town called VIeiro, in the council of VIveiro (Spain), my mothers family is from VIlares and my father’s family is from VIgo…

- Im exactly 3 years, 3 months and 3 days older than my brother

- Once, going out, I met a guy that was at my town for holydays. After becomeing friends he spoke me about a friend of his and gave me his msn. When he send me a picture of him it was the one i had just in front of me in the wall, as it was a picture with a rock band (OASIS, i know its well known, but only we were only 5 people at the hotel waiting to see them), and my best friend was also there, so it was the same picture but different angle…

- Once I was in love with a guy that had a girlfriend. I was at Madrid with my friends, and i told one of them: If i ever see him with her, i will forget about him. Five minutes later we take the subway, and as we were waiting, the train going to the other direction stops infront of us. Exactly infront of me it was sitting him and his girlfriend…

- My favourite music band is OASIS, whose leader singer and writer are from Manchester (United Kingdom). In Spain I study at a University that hasnt got many grants to study abroad. I asked for one and I got it to study in Manchester.

There are many other little coincidences in my life, but i guess those are the ones that are more shocking to me.

About four years ago, my friend’s Mike, Jeff and I were looking to score some weed (hehe -kids) on a beautiful sunny summer day. Anwyays, we couldnt find any and were about to give up when we see my friend Adam. Instead of selling us a bag, he gives us a huge free sak!! Awesome!! So we leave the city to go for a nice country drive. We rolled a joint and while doing so, noticed some rather nasty looking storm clouds building to the west. As we start smoking the joint, the storm strikes the area we are in. My friend Mike and I had a strange feeling that something was not right, and we couldnt put our finger on it. We’re almos finished with the joint and I realize im getting close to a major highway. So I flip a U , turn around and start driving back. Not a moment later there was a large flash accompanied by a large bang. Lightning had struck a power pole not 5 feet from my car and we all felt the effects. My friend Mike even had minor burns on his hands, typical entrance/exit wounds for electricity. It just so happens that the lightning struck as we we’re tossing the joint out the window. After that weird little incident, the skies cleared up and the rest of the day was great! Hehe, not sure if its coincidental, but it was one hell of an odd day to say the least

Music i Hear on the radio,
im thinking about a song and maybe next day or that week i hear it on the radio. I dont really listen to the radio that much, and they are usually fairly uncommon songs. I mean one day i had U2s wild horses in my head kinda playing it through and stuff, about two hours later it came on the radio. And it was a talk radio station (usually talk but they play some songs). Annie Lennox no more i love yous, one line was stuck in my had for a week and then i heard it. Dont even like the song. Golden brown the stranglers within the space of twenty minutes. These were in the past few weeks and the ones i can remember. I usually forget. It’s just i dont really listen to the radio and most of the songs are pretty obscure at least to be played on the radio. Some times (not often) when i wake up as well i’ll be humming a tune before i get to the kitchen for breakfast, and if the radios on, that song is nearly sure of coming up. It’s kind of cool. anyway… i just typed in strange coincidences when i heard the annie lennox one because i dont think of it the whole time and i always meant to ask about it..

Over the easter holiday I went to north wales with my mum and our lodger. Because it was such a beautiful warm day we decided to go to criccieth beach and take the dog for a walk. Many families were out beachcombing among the hundreds of rocks. We joined them but every rock pool we examined and every rock we overturned seemed to be devoid of sealife apart from seashells and seaweed. Just as we were complaining that the welsh beaches had to be the worst place to find any sealife, a man and his boy walked past us saying ‘so now we have a starfish, let’s see if we can find anything else’. I said to my mum who was a few yards away, ‘that guy there found a starfish..and we can’t find anything’. Whereupon I knelt down and turned over the stone by my foot and saw the cutest starfish clinging on. And I do believe it’s there still…I’ve also had many other weird coincidences this past week-to do with films and people that I have discussed previously and find that they appear in the news or tv guides. And I always find things come in threes…

My grandma, Kathleen, once told me of how she and my grandad first met. It was when she was 11 and he was 12, they were with a group of other children, on their way home from church. The other kids were older so they left them sitting on a wooden bench where my grandad scribed their names in the wood. Fast forward many years, they had never spoken or met since. My grandma was working, prior to the second world war, in a firm called Ellis Sykes. She did the book keeping there and everyone always said hello kathleen to her every morning apart from one young, silent man. He never even acknowledged her and she rather disliked him for it. However one night she was working late and was just taking her dance shoes out of a drawer in preparation to meet her boyfriend, Robert Hampson, who was waiting in the square. She filled in the last pay check which happened to be for a man called Norman Holland, when the young man who never spoke to her said ‘I think you’ll find that check is for me’. Cut a ong story short, that night she went out with that Norman Holland and left her boyfriend standing in the square. They never met again. But the weirdest thing is just a few weeks ago she told me about a chance encounter at her Towns Womes Guild. She is 87 now and that is the average age of the members. Whilst sitting in a chair waiting for her friends she overheard a conversation (reminiscing about the past) between to old ladies. One lady was telling the other that she had loved a boy called Robert Hampson but he was besotted with the girl Kathleen who ended up marrying the farmers son Norman Holland. I like to think that my grandma and grandfather were destined to be with each other.
