A couple of weeks ago, I was in a town called Hexham (25 miles away from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne), I needed to buy a gift for a friend who was about to embark on a year’s travel, I could have bought the gift in Hexham, however, the shop I wanted to look in didn’t open until 10am and it was 9.30. I could have gone for a coffee and waited, but a thought in my head kept nagging me to go shopping in Newcastle…......so I got in my car and drove the 25 miles and wandered around, bought the gift and decided to have an early lunch before returning home. The cafe I went to is a wholefood cafe called “Supernatural”, after ordering and sitting down, I thought I recognised a woman from Leeds (I used to live there 8 years ago). Feeling strange, I decided to approach the woman and sure enough, it was someone I had met at a party about 9 years ago at a friend’s house, she asked me how our mutual friend was and unfortunately, I had to break the bad news that she had died two years ago. The biggest coincidence is that when we sat down to talk, we found that we had both been reading the same book that week – “The Celestine Vision” by James Redfield, it is a book which recognises coincidences and encourages you to acknowledge them and grow and learn from them.

Since then, I have been having more coincidences like seeing a car similar to a friends car three times in a row which made me decide to ring her and finding out that she was about to ring me at that moment.

I love coincidences and am finding that they can be life-enhancing.

Ok then, here we go…

My girlfriend has always loved animals and the sea, ever since she can remember. She has spent her life trying to get a job working with them. One night about 2 months ago we were talking about how when she was younger she wrote letters to conservation groups around the uk in an attempt to get work experience.

She said that no one would ever take her on but they always replied saying stuff like “your too young” (she was about 15), or “we’ve no space…” generally fobbing her off. However the one place she really wanted to hear from never replied… It was not far away; probably about 100 miles and she never understood why they had ignored her.

During this conversation her mum phoned from home (we are at uni now doing masters degrees) saying she had something in the post… she told her to open it and it turned out to be the very letter she had just been talking about! Apparently it had never reached its destination and had been returned to sender, it had postmarks from all over the uk, it had been to Ireland, Scotland, Wales and back. This letters monumental journey had taken just over 7 years, lost in the British postal system and the one time she mentioned it was day it came back…..

Sounds like nothing much but at the time it was very very strange….

Just read a coincidence about losing things and them reappearing, well…..a few weeks ago the same thing happened to me.

I went swimming and distinctly remembered putting my wedding ring and another ring in a particular pocket of my rucksack, before putting my stuff in the locker.

After returning home and getting my wet swimming stuff out of my bag, I looked in the pocket for my rings and they weren’t there. I rang the place where I had been swimming and the people couldn’t find them in the locker and no-one had handed them in.

Weeks past and I searched the whole of the house and kept tipping my rucksack upside down so that anything would fall out.

My husband got a bit prickly with me for not wearing my wedding ring and I explained that I thought I must have lost it.

After checking the bag over and over again, I left it for a while, however, it really bugged me, so one day I decided to check the bag one more time before I cut it open to see if the rings had gone into the lining and lo and behold, they were perfectly visible in the pocket where I originally remembered leaving them in the first place. Weird huh?

I am writing a novel, which takes place during the American Civil War and includes a climactic but entirely fictitious battle at a tiny South Carolina village named Branchville. Recently I struck up an online friendship with a gentleman through a discussion group we both belong to. After discovering we were born on the same day, and that we are both descended from the same 16th-century European family, our conversation turned to our homes. He assured me – a Seattle native – that there was no way I would have heard of the town where he lives: a very small village called Branchville, South Carolina.
At this time I was rewriting a section of my book pertaining to events in another tiny village called Villanow, Georgia. My new online friend soon sent me a letter in which he talked about his childhood, which was spent in – you guessed it – Villanow, Georgia. (I had not yet told him that his hometown was in my book.)
Still later, while doing some research for the book, I was reading about a somewhat obscure Confederate officer, who happens to be a character in my novel. That very evening I received an email from my friend, which included a link to an article mentioning the very same officer. My friend could not possibly have known that I was studying that officer’s life on that very day. Weird, huh?

For some odd reason I always felt as if Im the only person who pays attention to coincidences but thanks to this website, I know better but anyway my coincidence is that one day I was at work at a movie store and a guy called from Florida, a long distance call may I add because my job is in Canton, MS so he asked if I knew the name of a movie because he forgot the name of it so he was describing the movie to me saying it was about an intelligent scientist working for the FBI, so I was like I dont know what movie you’re describing so I asked if he remembered the lead actor and he said it was Russell Crowe and the movie was the one that Russell starred in before Master and Commander so I suggested that he call back because customers were piling into the store and I told him that i would inquire about the movie so I went about my work not really caring about what movie it was so he called back and asked if I found out the movie title and I said no Im sorry sir I didnt, and he was like thank you. So the end of my shift comes about and I was searching for a good movie to watch, so as Im reading the back of the movie cover boxes I run across a movie named A Beautiful Mind starring Russell Crowe so I read the briefing for the movie and it was the exact movie the guy from Florida was asking about, whats so weird about the situation is that I could have read the back of any other movie box that night but thats the one I chose out of a selection of over 12,000 movies, it was so shocking.

This one is long, but worth reading! The ‘coincidence’ is not just once but happens many times over & it spans half the length of India.

I’m a Londoner & in 2000 I desperately wanted to make it out to Goa for xmas & New Year [christian xmas & new year parties!] I made it, but then changed my plans for no good [or rather, apparent] reason & decided to leave Goa to make the long trip up half the length of India to Pushkar, Rajasthan. Everyone said ‘why? you’re crazy! you wanted to be HERE for christmas & it’s only 2 days to go! Pushkar isn’t chritmassy or new yearsie!’ but I went ahead & did it anyway, not really knowing ‘why’ myself.

I booked a 24 hour train journey to Ahmedabad, the busy capital city of Gujurat state. It had to be booked in advance & the train left 2 days later. I then had a connection to make for a second train to Ajmer but changed my mind on the [first] overnight train. I wanted to stop at Udaipur en route, & the train I was booked onto didn’t stop there. So I cancelled my second train ticket on arrival in Ahmedabad & travelled across the city by rickshaw. booked a bus ticket to Udaipur, ran some errands then made my way to the busy bus station & made my connection. In more ways than one!...

Many buses were leaving for Udaipur, there were throngs of people. An Israeli girl tried to get on my bus but was told it was full & she eventually gave up. Then an American man arrived. Rushing & bothered, he insisted no, this was his bus & he was damn well getting on it! Eventually they let him on & he found the last remaining seat at the back. We’d just started on the journey & he was up again, demanding they stop the bus. The driver didn’t hear him, so I stood up & shouted stop the bus…it stopped! The American announced that he was going to Pushkar & the bus was only going as far as Udaipur. The driver said “no, we go on to Ajmer AFTER!” & continued driving. I didn’t speak to the american at this point.

When we arrived in Udaipur, I left my pack with 2 Australian travellers off the bus & went inside a booth to call & book us rooms. They were young & on a tight budget, so I checked out the local hostel for them but also enquired about extra rooms at the hotel I was headed: views of Lake Pichola & it was christmas so maybe they wanted to splash out. I went & told them the options & they elected to come with me. Right then, the American man came up & announced he was coming too. I told him I thought he was headed to Pushkar & he sad he was, but had done enough travelling already & had changed his mind. So the australian couple got into one rickshaw & myself & the american into another.

On talking to him, it turned out he has been staying on the same beach as me in Goa. He had then taken the same over night train to Ahmedabad [he said he had passed me on the train, but decided not to bother me as I was reading. I hadn’t seen him.] Then he had crossed the city independently of me & booked a bus ticket. He then got the same bus that I was on, right at that moment despite the fact that dozens of busses go from Ahmedbad to Ajmer every hour & I had been in the city for 2 hours doing other stuff… & Despite the fact that another equally pushy traveller had just been turned away as the bus was full. That STILL not being enough to make us talk, he then ended up in my rickshaw, & finally my hotel. All this AND remember: we had both been headed to Pushkar, but changed out plan to Udaipur en route.

We stayed in Udaipur for a few until he had to leave India on Boxing Day. He wanted to prolong his trip but I told him I WILL come to you when my travelling is done! we maintained contact over distance & time until we could be together again 6 months later. We met in New York first, & then London. Things progressed between us beautifully & I moved to USA to be with him. Then one day I found out he had been faithless – not believing I would come to America, he had slept with someone else a year before when I was still in India. Maybe I should have let it go but he had lied & he continued lying even on discovery. Faithlessness is one thing, but when honesty goes, what is left? So we remain friends in a distant way & there is love there, but that is all.

& Finally…. When I made it to Pushkar after he had left, on the early hours of new years eve I sat up on my bed & thought what on earth am I doing HERE? I wanted to be in Goa for new years! It was as if I’d blocked that before but had suddenly woken up to it. Time was short & my original decision that I HAD to be in GOA for this was back with a vengeance! The next morning I visited a travel agent who worked out how I could get there in time: I took a 13 hour bus to Delhi, a plane to Mumbai, a second plane to Goa & then a taxi to the beach where it had all began, just a week after I had left! I arrived at 7pm, found a room easily [despite the serious lack of them & queues of the desperate ‘roomless’ everywhere… lateral thinking is good in a crisis!]. I then found my friends on the beach like I was some kind of guided missile & we then partied like you’re meant to on New Years.

This kind of thing is part of my life in very big ways & with alarming frequency. I believe there is far more to it than mere ‘coincidence’. & Yes, coincidences do happen. But so do much bigger things that aren’t so simple. I’ve related this particular one because it is too extended [in terms of time, land covered, locations & constancy… plus WHY did I go? I still don’t understand my motivation to make such a ridicluous trip!] It’s all way too far reaching to be put down to mere ‘coincidence’. Fate exists. Sometimes you really are meant to meet people & Kim, it sounds like you & your man were certainly fated. I wish you a long & happy life together. But for other people reading this; remember we are meant to meet people for many reasons. Pay careful attention when these events happen. It may just be coincidence, or it may be that God is telling you something that will shape your life :D All the best, Suzy xx

My name is Kim and I was raised in a small town in western Nebraska called Alliance. I am also recovering alcoholic. One day I was in an Alcoholics Anonymous chat room,(which I rarely visit), when a man named Scott started talking to me. As it turns out he once lived in Omaha, where I live now and went to school here to become a Nurse.

As we talked further, he told me that he wasn’t from Omaha, but was raised in western Nebraska. You got it, he was from my home town. After I learned his last name, it sounded familiar, but we were 7 years apart in age. We did however have some mutual friends in Alliance.

Then we got back on the subject of Omaha. He told me that he used to live in central Omaha on a street called Poppleton. I told him that I had just bought a home in North Omaha off of 45th Street. He said, “Really, my Aunt used to live on that street.” Scott then asked for the address, when I told him he said that he was certain that this was the home that his Aunt lived in. He described my house to me, just like someone would have if they were standing next to me. I have confirmed that this was his Aunt’s home from neighbors that have lived on this street for over 20 years.

Scott and I continued our friendship, sometimes communicating through e-mail, but mostly over the phone for the past 8 months. We have become close and are very much in love. Scott and I believe that God brought us together through these series of coincidences.
